FLIGHT TO SAN JOSE
Flight to San José – the capital of Costa Rica. After checking in at the hotel, we will go on a journey around the city. The National Theatre, the impressive cathedral and numerous museums, such as the National Museum, the Children’s Museum and the Gold Museum are a few places which can be seen here. The attraction of the city is the Basilica of Cartago, called Basilica de Nuestra Senora de Los Angeles, as well as old buildings and ruins from colonial times. For believers, the basilica is particularly important because of the statue of the Black Madonna, which, according to pilgrims here, is the source of many healings. Transfer to the hotel for an overnight stay.
SAN JOSE - COFFEE PLANTATION - POAS VOLCANO - LA PAZ WATERFALL
After breakfast, we will depart towards the Central Mountain Range, where we will visit an original Costa Rican coffee plantation, La Paz waterfall gardens and the Poas volcano. The main purpose of this “coffee tour” is to learn both about the production process and the process of making coffee. We will gain knowledge about the production, harvesting, processing and roasting of beans. Then we will go on an expedition to the Poas Volcano. As we approach the crater, we will feel the change in temperature and vegetation. On the way we will contemplate the beautiful landscape of coffee plantations, ferns, flowers and strawberries. In the beautiful national park, you can not only admire the impressive main crater and the sulfur fumaroles that are forming, but also get to know various ecosystems. Continuing our trip to the La Paz Waterfall Gardens, we will have lunch. Upon arrival, we will embark on a trail leading to a spectacular waterfall in the middle of the rainforest. We will also see a gallery of hummingbirds, a serpentarium, a house for birds, a butterfly garden and an exhibition of frogs. Return to San Jose for an overnight stay.
SAN JOSE - ARENAL VOLCANO
After breakfast, we will say goodbye to San Jose for a while to go near the city of La Fortunana, where the Arenal volcano is located. The Arenal Mistico Park located there is famous for its suspension bridges. It is an ideal place for hiking. There are trails and bridges that lead to the “heart” of this primeval rainforest full of birds, flowers and lush vegetation. This is the perfect trip for nature lovers! The routes cover about two miles in total and are of all difficulty levels. During the 2.5-hour walk, we will have the opportunity to admire the diversity of fauna and flora typical of the tropical rainforest. Along the way we will also observe many species of birds and plants. We will also go straight into the forest via fifteen bridge sections, six of which are treetop suspension bridges, along easy, safe and beautiful trails overlooking Arenal Volcano.
WATER SAFARI ON THE RIVER CENO NEGRO AND RIVER FRIO
After breakfast, a real treat for nature lovers – a boat trip on the Caño Negro and Río Frío rivers! The cruise will begin in Los Chiles, a small town located four kilometers from the Nicaraguan border. This particular river is part of the Caño Negro Wildlife Reserve, home to the most diverse habitats of flora and fauna in Costa Rica. Along the river you can observe huge numbers of birds (such as snakebird, heron and cormorant) and animals (howler monkeys, spiders, white-faced monkeys, three-toed sloths, some reptiles such as caimans, Jesus Christ lizards as well as turtles). After lunch, we will drive to an elegant hotel where we can relax in the pools filled with thermal waters that are naturally heated by the Arenal volcano. It is an ideal place to relax among nature and the singing of birds. Return to the hotel in the evening.
TARCOLES RIVER – PUNTA LEONA
Today we exchange Arenal Volcano National Park to Manuel Antonio Volcano. We start our adventure with a boat trip on the Tarcoles River! Keep your eyes wide open for the prosperity of wildlife, including the famous American crocodiles or the rarely seen Scarlet Macaws in Carara National Park. Children in particular will enjoy meeting the Jesus Christ lizards that literally walk on the water here. During the two-hour tour of the Tarcoles River to the Guacalillo Mangrove Estuary, you will be accompanied by a bilingual guide who will point out the often hard-to-see wildlife. We will definitely see more crocodiles here than anywhere else in the world! After sightseeing, we will have lunch and drive to a hotel located right on the beach in Punta Leona.
PUNTA LEONA – MANUEL ANTONIO PARK
After breakfast, we will set off to the Manuel Antonio National Park. Once there, we will explore the natural, unspoilt beauty of this world-famous place full of exotic animals such as monkeys, sloths, birds, reptiles and butterflies. After about a two-kilometer hike through picturesque areas, we will reach the beach, recognized by Forbes magazine as one of the most beautiful in the world. During this refreshing 20-minute beach stop, we’ll hear the roar of the lush forest behind us, see the white sandy beach beneath our feet, and see the crystal blue waters. The trained eyes of our guide will reliably spot the diverse fauna and flora along the way so that we can capture it with our cameras. Return to your hotel in Punta Leona.
PUNTA LEONA
Breakfast at the hotel and a day off. During this time we will be able to take full advantage of the opportunities offered by this beautiful part of the world. Our hotel is located in the immediate vicinity of a beautiful beach on the central Pacific coast. It is a perfect opportunity to break away from the routine and enjoy the connection with nature. We will spend our last night in Costa Rica there. An opportunity to rent kayaks, boats and surfboards.
SAN JOSE
And the day has arrived when we say goodbye to beautiful Costa Rica. After breakfast, transfer to San José airport, saying farewell to the group and returning home to plan your next trips.
